Join Carnegie Hill Neighbors for a family-friendly City of Forest Day celebration!
Help care for our neighborhood’s urban forest with bulb planting, tree care tips, children’s activities, and more. Stop by the kids’ coloring and activity table, meet members of the CHN Tree Pruning Team, and learn simple ways to support healthy trees in Carnegie Hill. Neighbors of all ages are welcome!

Already know the basics? Pull up a chair and put your skills into practice. Designed for players with previous American Mahjong experience, these relaxed, supportive sessions are an opportunity to build confidence, sharpen your strategy, and enjoy more time at the table.
An experienced Mahjong instructor will be on hand throughout each session to answer questions, clarify rules, share strategy tips, and offer guidance as you play.
Come play, connect with fellow Mahjong enthusiasts from the neighborhood, and enjoy some friendly competition in one of Carnegie Hill’s most beautiful historic spaces.
Format: Two-hour guided open play session
Experience level: Players who already know the basics of American Mahjong. This is not an introductory lesson.
Space is limited and advance registration is required.

Carnegie Hill Neighbors is proud to sponsor Rat Academy Training with the NYC Department of Health, a free and comprehensive session designed to equip our community with proven strategies for rat prevention and control. This in-depth training provides practical, city-approved methods to address rat activity at its source, helping participants better understand how rats live, why infestations occur, and what steps can effectively stop them.
Attendees will learn about their legal responsibilities, best practices for prevention, and the tools and resources available to protect their buildings and blocks. Whether you are a building superintendent, maintenance staff member, tenant, homeowner, property manager, or small business owner, this training offers valuable, actionable information you can put to use right away.
We encourage you to share this opportunity with your building superintendent, management company, or neighbors who may benefit. Together, we can take proactive steps to protect Carnegie Hill and prevent infestations before they start.

The Annual Carnegie Hill Spooktacular is a free, family-friendly Halloween block party stretching along East 92nd Street from Fifth to Park Avenue. Organized by Carnegie Hill Neighbors, this beloved tradition features costumes, music, dancing, games, trick-or-treating, and plenty of candy. Each October, neighbors of all ages come together to celebrate Halloween and the vibrant community spirit of Carnegie Hill.

Educational Neighborhood Walking Tours
Carnegie Hill Neighbors’ educational walking tours are designed to deepen appreciation for the rich architectural, cultural, and historical fabric of our neighborhood. Led by Lo van der Valk, CHN's President and preservation expert, these tours offer residents and visitors an opportunity to explore the stories behind Carnegie Hill’s iconic buildings, hidden gems, and evolving streetscapes.
Whether highlighting historic rowhouses, significant landmarks, or the neighborhood’s role in shaping New York City, our tours foster a stronger connection to place and inspire stewardship of our community’s unique character.
Community Conversations & Forums
Carnegie Hill Neighbors hosts roundtables, candidate forums, and civic discussions as a resource for our community. These gatherings offer neighbors the chance to hear directly from local leaders, ask questions, and engage in thoughtful dialogue on issues that matter—from public safety and city planning to education and small business support.

Weekly Tai Chi Classes
In partnership with Health Advocates for Older People, CHN offers free weekly Tai Chi and 10-Form classes designed to promote balance, flexibility, and mindfulness. These gentle movements help improve strength, coordination, and focus—supporting both physical wellness and a sense of community among older adults.
Annual Spooktacular
This beloved neighborhood tradition has grown into a full Halloween celebration block party, now stretching from Fifth Avenue to Park Avenue! Open to the public, the Annual Carnegie Hill Spooktacular—organized by Carnegie Hill Neighbors—brings families together each October for festive fall fun. The lively afternoon features costume contests, music, dancing, trick-or-treating, and plenty of candy. It’s a joyful celebration of community spirit—where spooky meets sweet, and neighbors of all ages gather to enjoy the magic of Carnegie Hill.
